Criminal Law, generally, an exception to the rule requiring a police officer have an arrest warrant and enter a private home, usually in the context of a police officer chasing down a criminal who has committed a crime (such as receiving illegal drugs) and has entered a home. The police officer may enter the home, without a warrant, in order to prevent the alleged criminal from destroying the evidence.
