An act done in a moment of passion, without the ability to reflect properly on the circumstances. A mitigating factor in a criminal charge; see crime of passion. In criminal law. A state of violent and uncontrollable rage engendered by a blow or certain other provocation given, which will reduce a homicide from the grade of murder to that of manslaughter. A state of mind contradistinguished from a cool state of the blood.
