For the federal government, the chief prosecutor who enforces the federal criminal laws of the United States and who may also enforce federal civil statutes, for example, the Civil Rights Act. The U.S. Attorney is appointed by the President of the U.S. and appoints several Assistant District Attorneys who prosecute cases for the office, most common being drug smuggling, securities fraud and violations, immigration violations and other major federal criminal offenses.
