SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

In criminal prosecutions that concern especially offensive crimes, some state statutes allow for the imposition of even harsher sentencing. Where there are special circumstances, such as in a murder case, the death penalty may be warranted. Other special circumstances include murdering a police officer and serial killing.
