SEVERAL LIABILITY

TheLaw.com Law Dictionary & Black's Law Dictionary 2nd Ed.

When a party is responsible only for that party’s obligation, separate from the obligation of another party. Thus if there are joint owners of car who are severally liable for the whole auto loan, a plaintiff can bring a lawsuit against that one party without having to bring a separate lawsuit against the other party.
