A legal proceeding to displace someone, sometimes used with regard to an official, director or other authorized person (see removal from office) but most common in immigration law and is known as deportation where an immigration judge will decide whether an immigrant will be allowed to enter or stay in the country. A removal hearing is required before a person can be deported while a person at the border of the U.S. may be denied entry without a hearing before a judge. Persons who are deported are barred from re-entering the United States for at least five years unless granted a special waiver.
