A legal standard; that which a prudent person would believe and would take action based upon hearing this information from another person. In the usual case, a person relies upon a statement or implied promise of receiving a benefit and then acts to obtain the benefit only to discover that the statement was exaggerated or false. If the reliance was reasonable, recovery is possible by the person who relied upon the statements.
