NEW YORK TIMES V SULLIVAN

Landmark Supreme Court decision which ruled that the commercial press may not be sued for defamation (libel) in publishing allegedly defamatory statements concerning public figures unless the plaintiff could show that the defendant member of the press acted with actual malice; an intentional action or one made with a reckless disregard for the truth.
