The act by which an alien is made a citizen of the United States of America. 2. The Constitution of the United States, art. 1, s. 8, vests in congress the power to establish an uniform rule of naturalization. In pursuance of this authority congress have passed several laws on this subject, which, as they are of general interest, are here transcribed as far as they are in force. Virtually all persons who through the naturalization process must have possessed a green card for several years. After becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen, that person has virtually the same rights as a native-born American citizen. 3. The act of adopting an alien into a nation, and clothing him with all the rights possessed by a natural-born citizen. Collective naturalisation takes place where a government, by treaty or cession, aquires the whole or part of the territory of a oreign nation and takes to itself the inhabitants thereof, clothing them with the rights of citizenship either by the terms of the treaty or by subsequent legislation.
