IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE (INS)

This was the federal agency of the Department of Justice that handled immigration and naturalization laws. In 2003, the functions of the INS were delegated to the Department of Homeland Security, which has various bureaus that handle different areas formerly under the INS.
