HUSBAND

(A) domestic relations. A man who has a wife. 2. The husband, as such, is liable to certain obligations, and entitled to certain rights, which will be here briefly considered. (B) mar. law. The name of an agent who is authorized to make the necessary repairs to a ship, and to act in relation to the ship, generally, for the owner. He is usually called ship’s husband. Vide Ship’s Husband.

Law Dictionary – Alternative Legal Definition

A married man; one who has a lawful wife living. The correlative of “wife.” Etymologically, the word signified the “house bond;” the man who, according to Saxon ideas and institutions, held around him the family, for whom he was in law responsible. Husband and wife. One of the great domestic relationships ; being that of a man and woman lawfully joined in marriage, by which, at common law, the’legal existence of a wife is incorporated with that of her husband.
