GENERIC NAME

TheLaw.com Law Dictionary & Black's Law Dictionary 2nd Ed.

A trademark name which no longer has a protected status as a result of continuous use as an English word, e.g. thermos, linoleum. May also refer to a term or brand which cannot be trademarked because it is commonly used in language by the public.
