EXPERT WITNESS

A person who is called to the stand to testify who possesses significant experience and can provide revealing and useful testimony in understanding special evidence. For example, if a defendant is claiming to have a certain medical condition, a highly experienced doctor who treats the condition can be called to the stand to testify as to whether the defendant does or does not suffer from the condition based upon his or her observation.
