COOKIE

A text document that a web browser creates on the hard drive when a user visits a website so that the website operator can retrieve the information when the visitor returns to the website. A cookie may store a visitor’s name and address, user name and password or other information so that the user does not need to enter the information again. Website operators will typically use cookies to personalize visitor experience, track visitor movements on the site, frequently to serve advertisements that are more tailored to the user.
