These rules govern the process of how civil (non-criminal) cases are handled, from the filing of an initial complaint through any subsequent appeals. Each state creates and codifies its rules of civil procedure which may be modeled after the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (frequently abbreviated as FRCP) which are used in the federal court system.
