(1) Referring to a son or daughter of any age of a parent or parents (which may include biological children, adopted and foster children, etc.) (2) Referring to a minor person between the ages of 14 and 16. A minor is usually referred to as a person under the age of 18 but some laws, such as statutory rape (frequently with children age 16 or younger) and the ability to make a will (at age 14) classify these types of minor differently and are referred to as children. Related topics include emancipation.
