ADDITUR

Latin: an additional amount. When a trial court increases or adds to the amount of damages a jury has awarded the plaintiff. This will usually occur when the trial court rules that the jury award is inadequate compensation. Can be done with defendant’s consent and an additional amount is awarded and which will result in the plaintiff’s motion for a new trial being denied.
