SUBSTITUTED SERVICE

Service to another person or party who is authorized to receive legal documents on behalf of the named party in the documents. When another form of the delivery of court documents occurs that is substituted for personal service, which is the practice of handing the legal papers directly to the person being served. Examples of substitute service are leaving the documents with an agent of the person being served, with an adult living in that person’s home or by nail and mail which is pasting them on the door of the person to be served and sending a follow up copy by mail.
