STATE COURT

A court of the state that that hears and decides cases involving state law (as opposed to federal law such as copyright or matters of immigration.) State courts must have the jurisdiction over both parties, who must either reside in that state or have minimum contacts with the state (such as owning property in the state, doing business within the state or making use of its roads.) State civil courts may be divided by dollar amounts (small claims for matters up to $7,500, civil court for up to $100,000, etc.) and also according to subject matter, such as criminal court, family court and probate court.
