A social insurance program funded by payroll taxes called Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA). The primary part of the program is called OASDI (Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance) or RSDI (Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance) and provides payment benefits for retirement, disability, survivorship, and death to the public.
