SLANDER

Defamation that is oral or spoken. It is a false statement made about a person, shared with at least one other person, that harms the defamed person’s reputation or standing in the community. Slander is a civil wrong (tort) and the most common cases include false statements made on the radio which reach many persons.

In torts. Oral defamation; the speaking of false and malicious words concerning another, whereby injury results to his reputation. Slander of title. This is a statement of something tending to cut down the extent of title to some estate vested in the plaintiff. Such statement, in order to be actionable, must be false and malicious; i.e., both untrue and done on purpose to injure the plaintiff. Damage must also have resulted from the statement Brown.
