SEAL

(A) A stamping device that leaves an impression on paper that is used to permanently mark documents with an official sign that authenticates the signer. For example, corporations and notaries usually have seals. (B) To conceal from the public record, to seal the record shut so that it may not be viewed. For example, a juvenile offender’s record may be sealed so that the rehabilitated offender may be able to have a fresh start in life without another discovering his or her criminal history.
