QUO ANIMO

Lat. With what intention or motive. Used sometimes as a substantive, in lieu of the single word “animus” design or motive. “The quo animo is the real subject of inquiry. The intent; the mind with which a thing has been done; as, the quo animo with which the words were spoken may be shown by the proof of conversations of the defendant relating to the original defamation. 19 Wend. 296.
