PUR AUTRE VIE

(A) French for for the lifetime of another and used to describe the duration of a property interest, for example, the use of an item for the lifetime of a particular person. (B) tenures. These old French words signify, for another’s life. An estate is said to be pur autre vie, when a lease is made of lands or tenements to a man, to hold for the life of another person.
