A person appointed by a probate court to oversee probate proceedings and to temporarily manage the affairs and preserve assets of the estate. An administrator is usually appointed when a person dies intestate (without a will) or without heirs and they property may be expected to pass to the state or in cases where there are disputes about will provisions or regarding who will be appointed the regular administrator.
