PROPRIETOR

The owner of a business. A sole proprietor is the single owner of an unincorporated business. This term is almost synonymous with “owner,” (q. v.,) as in the phrase “riparian proprietor.” A person entitled to a trademark or a design under the acts for the registration or patenting of trademarks and designs (q. v.) is called proprietor” of the trademark of design.
