OWN RECOGNIZANCE (OR)

When a defendant is released from custody, without paying bail and promising to make required court appearances. Only those with minimal risk are released OR such as when there is minimal flight risk due to a strong tie to the community (family with children and steady job) and no prior history of failing to appear in court. Very serious charges (such as murder) will not or rarely result in release OR or on personal recognizance.
