Abbreviation for non obstante verdicto or notwithstanding the verdict. Usually a party of the phrase judgment NOV when a judge sets aside a verdict believing that the facts or law clearly do not support the decision of a jury (.e.g., when a judge may believe that a jury may have been more influenced by emotional rather than unemotional, factual analysis.)
