Negligence where the question of whether the defendant exercised reasonable and prudent conduct does not need to be answered due to the defendant’s violation of a law that was designed to protect the public. As a result, the defendant’s action or inaction is considered to be inherently negligent, e.g. exceeding the speed limit on a highway.
