Latin: In old English law. A taking; a distress. Spelman. Things, goods, or animals taken by way of distress. Simplex namium, a simple taking or pledge. Bract, fol. 205b. Namium vetitum. An unjust taking of the cattle of another and driving them to an unlawful place, pretending damage done by them, Comm. 140.
