A motion limiting the evidence to be presented at trial. A motion (or a judicial request) made to the court before trial attempting to exclude evidence from the trial proceeding. These motions are usually made when a party believes that the evidence would prejudice the jury against that party, regardless of whether a jury instruction would me made later to the jury to disregard the evidence. For example, a defendant’s confession would likely affect a jury’s decision, even if later they were told that the confession was inadmissible evidence.
