A requirement that must be satisfied before a defendant can be sued in a particular state, that the defendant must have some minimum connection with that state which would make it understandable and reasonable why that party should be expected to be sued there. The party has availed themselves of the protections of the state and thus should be held accountable for their actions. For example, actively soliciting and selling to customers and delivering products to a customer in a state or having business offices within a state may provide minimum contacts between a company and the state.
