LOWER COURT

Typically refers to the trial court or original court where a case was heard. However, also refers to a court that prior head and decided a matter which is currently being reviewed in a higher appellate court for review. A lower court may also refer to the lowest of courts, such as local, municipal, justice or small claims courts below the first level of a superior, county, civil, appellate or district court.
