A monetary amount which determines whether a court or tribunal is authorized to hear a case. Some courts may only be able to hear cases where a plaintiff alleges up to a certain monetary limit (lower courts such as Small Claims Court or Civil Court.) Federal Court cases involving diversity jurisdiction requires the dispute being a monetary value of at least $75,000.
