GREEN CARD

This is a common term (most frequently used) for the Alien Registration Receipt Card. It is a card provided to legal permanent residents of the United States and also serves as a photo identification card. it enables permanent residents to leave the U.S. and return after a temporary departure and a visa is not required for entry. Unless the right is abandoned or is terminated as a result of a violation of immigration or criminal laws, a green card may not be revoked and the holder has a right to be a legal permanent resident and work in the United States. Green cards expire after 10 years and may be renewed. After a period of time, a long time green card holder may apply for citizenship in the United States.
