FLOTSAM

1. The floating debris from a ship wrecked at sea. 2. A name for the goods which float upon the sea when castoverboard for the safety of the ship or when a ship is sunk. Distinguished from “jetsam”and “ligan.” Bract lib. 2 c. 5; 5 Coke. 100; 1 Bl. Comm. 292.
