FIFTH AMENDMENT

TheLaw.com Law Dictionary & Black's Law Dictionary 2nd Ed.

An amendment to the U.S. Constitution which was added to the Bill of Rights and provides that (1) no person will be required to answer to a crime without a grand jury indictment; (2) one cannot be tried for the same crime twice as there is no double jeopardy; (3) no one will be required to testify against him or her self; (4) no one can be deprived of their life, liberty or property without due process of the law (a fair hearing); (5) no property shall be taken by the government without just (fair) compensation.
