DIVORCE AGREEMENT

An agreement made by two people who are obtaining a divorce with regard to the division of the couple’s property, the custody and visitation rights of each person with regard to their children, the amount of alimony and child support to be paid and other important matters. The divorce agreement must be written, signed and accepted by the court before it becomes a part of the divorce decree. Such an agreement allows the parties to avoid trial. The agreement is also called generally a settlement agreement or marital termination agreement.
