COLLECTIVE WORK

A copyright term, this is a work that includes a collection of copyrightable works combined into one work, for example, periodicals, anthologies, collections and encyclopedias. A collective work requires an applicant have the requisite permission or rights of each work in the collective work to be filed. The author of the compilation may not own a separate copyright for individual parts but as a collection of separate works, an author can have a copyright in the selected list that comprises the compilation.
