CHALLENGE FOR CAUSE

In the process of selecting a jury, one party may request that the judge dismiss a potential juror from serving on a trial jury due to a valid legal reason why the juror should not serve. Most common reasons include potential bias of the juror, for example that the juror is a relative of one of the parties to the action or admittedly has a prejudice against the religion or race of one of the parties. There is no limit on the number of successful challenges for cause (as bias must be removed and cannot be done so effectively with a hard limit.) Judges may also dismiss a juror for cause.
