CATHEDRAL

In English ecclesiastical law. The church of the bishop of the diocese, in which is his cathedra, or throne, and his special jurisdiction; in that respect the principal church of the diocese. All deaneries, archdeaconries, and canonries, and generally all dignities and offices in any cathedral or collegiate church, below the rank of a bishop.
