ADMISSION AGAINST INTEREST

An admission made by a person against their own interest. Such a statement is an exception to the hearsay rule. It allows a person to testify about a statement made by another person if that person is also revealing something that is against their interest such as information that is embarrassing, incriminating other otherwise puts the witness in a bad light or position. Such testimony is deemed to be more likely truthful as a person would otherwise not ordinarily make statements against their interest.
